Program Overview

Our literacy/educational services are as follows:

- Boys and Girls Club offers before, after school and summer programming for K-12 students, including language, STEM, and leadership development. The goal is for every Club Member to graduate from High School with post-secondary plans in place.

- Johnson County Community College offers 4 levels of English language classes to adult immigrants. They also have a computer lab to enhance English language learning and acquire basic computer skills.

- Our ELL Preschool offers the children of immigrant families enrolled in the English classes a chance to learn English and get ready for Kindergarten.

- The Kansas Reading Roadmap works with K-3 students in small groups, to get them to or above reading level, providing tutors and age specific materials.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

"I first came to the Center of Grace and registered for English classes a few days after arriving in the United States. That
decision helped me not only to learn a second language, but to learn how to educate and guide my family in a new culture. The programs have helped me grow my relationship with my children. I can now communicate with their teachers without a language barrier. Staff members helped me to make it a habit to read with my kids every night and to take them to the library. I learned to make healthier choices about food and how to read and compare labels at the supermarket. The Center of Grace also gave me the opportunity to learn about gardening and grow produce for my family in the community garden. To say 'thank
you' is not enough for everything that the Center of Grace has done for me. By putting my new skills into practice, I now feel included in a positive way in
this great nation." -Rocio Vazquez Marquez
