Program Overview

Career Connection (CC) Basic is a 4-day intensive training that emphasizes the core skills necessary for sustainable employment. The training is designed to help participants gain a better understanding of how to look for employment and develop necessary skills for becoming a valuable employee once employment is acquired. Skill areas taught include Money & Banking, Mortgage Made Easy, Financial Simulator, Resume Writing (using MS Word), Interview Skills with panel interviews, Decision Making Skills, Workplace Essentials, Success Strategies, Conflict Resolution, and CPR Certification.

Advanced Options include:

MIG Welding Boot Camp through The Cleveland State Community College OneSource Workforce Readiness Center. Upon completion of the MIG Welding training (40 hours), OneSource provides AWS certification testing.

Client Relations training is offered as a 3-day boot camp. Instruction focuses on working with the public in areas such as banking, customer service, sales, and call centers,

Career Connection targets those who are unemployed or underemployed in our community. It is specifically designed to serve those that may not have the time or money to complete a certification or college program, but are able to complete an intensive curriculum over a 10-day period.

The goals for Career Connection are:

To enhance the employability of the unemployed and under-employed in our community.

To provide the opportunity for acquisition of additional skills so that individuals may move from jobs to careers.

To offer empowerment for others through skills training education so that those caught in difficult economic situations may move from dependency to sustainability.

CC Basic cost is $700. CC Advanced cost is: Client Relations, $600; MIG Welding, $850. Scholarships up to 100% of costs are available through The Refuge and other funding sources. Qualification for scholarships is based on income.

Basic Option: $700 for 24 hours of instruction in basic job skills, computer skills, finance & interviews. Advanced Options: MIG Welding: $850 for 40 hours of instruction. This option provided through Cleveland State Community College OneSource Work Development program in partnership with The Refuge Cleveland. Client Relations: $600 for 20 hours of instruction. Instruction includes skills related to employment opportunities that serve the public: banking, customer service, sales, call centers, etc. Financial Assistance is available to qualified applicants for all options. Eligibility is based on income in relationship to Federal Poverty Index.
