Program Overview

Teachers have planned their instruction so that classes will be completed in an 8 week period. Successful high school credits students can earn half credit per class every 8 weeks. Please note: we offer no guarantees; regular attendance and lots of effort will be required from students! Students gain the knowledge and refine the skills they need in order to pass the GED test. Our instruction covers the subject areas of math reading and writing, social studies, science and the US and Illinois Constitutions. Students also practice the computer skills needed to take the GED test such as word processing, cutting and pasting, dragging and dripping information, and using drop-down menus. Students enrolled and attending our daily classes are also given access to i-Pathways, an on-line test-prep curriculum that they can use at home Rebound counselors and instructors are eager to help students with their college or employment goals. Counselors assist with college applications, financial aid, entrance testing, scheduling, textbook procurement, even how to correctly drop a class. Students searching for jobs receive aid with applications, résumés, interview skills, appropriate attire, and follow-up etiquette. Carbondale Family Literacy is a program that focuses on building the entire family’s literacy skills. Activities are planned to help parents learn about their child’s development, workshops are scheduled about parenting issues, and parent and child playtimes are organized so families have opportunities to learn together. A variety of books, toys, and other materials are available from the lending library. Project staff help connect parents to other programs available to assist with family needs.
