Program Overview

The BMBCC English for Speakers of Other Languages program offers combined online and in-person instruction (as Covid conditions permit) to train adults ages 18 and up in English. We focus primarily on new immigrants, mainly from Haiti and Spanish-speaking Latin America.

Most classes are offered twice a week for a total of 4 hours each week. We concentrate on spoken, conversational English that is most used for work, shopping, and getting along socially. Students are placed in a class with other students at a similar level of English skills. Most students have a choice of
day or evening classes. Whether instruction is online or in-person, students are given frequent tests to keep track of their progress and work on the areas of greatest need.

As students progress in their English, they may enroll in computer skills and job training instruction. We also help students find other services and opportunities for them and their families.

Our program is hosted by a church, but all are welcome and there is no religious content.
