Program Overview

Better Together is a free adult learning program for people in our community who want to improve their reading, writing, math, or earn their GED. The program is open to adults 18 years and older, including those who left school early, struggled in school, or need extra support.

Classes are welcoming, supportive, and judgment-free. You do not need to take a test to start. We meet you where you are and help you learn step by step.

Better Together offers:
  • Adult reading, writing, and math help
  • GED preparation for all subjects
  • Small group classes and one-on-one support
  • Practice tests and study help
  • GED testing fee reimbursement for those who qualify
  • Transportation support when needed
The program is offered by Gr8r Destiny in Grimesland, North Carolina, serving local and surrounding rural communities.

Our goal is to help adults gain skills, confidence, and new opportunities for work, school, and everyday life because we are better together.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

Michah Quote/GED Prep:
“I dropped out of school years ago and thought it was too late. Better Together showed me I wasn't dumb—I just
needed support. I passed my GED test and now I'm looking at better jobs for my family."

Manuel/Adult Literacy / ESL:
“English was hard for me, and I was embarrassed to ask for help. The teachers here are patient and kind. I can now read instructions at work and help my kids with their homework."

Janice/Volunteer:
“Volunteering with Better Together has been one of the most meaningful things I've done. You see real growth, people gaining confidence, reading better, and believing in themselves again."
