Program Overview
Bellevue Public Schools Family Literacy Center engages families, educators, administrators, and advocates to promote family education solutions and reduce educational inequalities. Family Literacy Centers works with families and utilizes resources with the community to provide literacy strategies, programming and resources for students and families. BPS Family Literacy Liaisons work with the parents to develop leadership skills within the community. The goal of family literacy programs is to bring parents or caregivers together with their children for intergenerational activities that inspire and support reading and learning in the home and throughout life. Since parents are their children's first teachers, promoting parental involvement in their children's education is a powerful way to improve literacy in our communities.
Extended learning opportunities are offered for adults in the community. Classes are offered for adults for free on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00-8:30 pm to learn English. Childcare is provided for adults enrolled for ages 3 and up for free while attending English classes. Additional learning opportunities are offered for GED, US Citizenship and other adult education.
BPS Family Literacy Center empowers parents with knowledge, education, and English language skills to support and advocate for their families.
