Program Overview

The Beacon of Hope from our start in 2004 after Hurricane Charley, offers comprehensive Community Ed and Social Programming to the greater Pine Island Area of Lee County. The Beacon has a great track record on adult and youth literacy offering GED, ESL, and k-6 classes. We even feed our students. Due to our program success and commitments, Lee County 'United Way' has chosen us to deliver their programs at our rather remote area not served by public transport. And Lee County Social services, consider us partners and provide our staff with training to access their efforts for the same reason. Both LCSS and UW train our staff. Briefly, we offer job counseling, family and individual psyc. counseling, Meals on Wheels, Health Screenings, Job training, Utility/Medical/Transport payments and services, computer refurbishing and donating/selling at modest prices thru our on-site Thrift Store--The Attic.

Cost Info

Costs for our Community Education--Adult--consist mainly of books and study materials cost. Depending on need, often there is no or minimal cost. Our GED students are even fed for free. For Youth, books etc and meals are entirely free. We also bus youth home after the 3 to 6 pm classes. Costs for social services is generally zero, but some things like Psychological Counseling may ask for some assistance from client depending on means. This service is generally provided gratis by an on-site registered psychologist. In turn, we provide her office space for her regular practice.. Our offices also provide internet access for a variety of uses.
