Program Overview
Away with Words is a family literacy program that helps adults and children build strong reading skills together. The program serves young adults who may need help improving their reading and writing, learning English, or preparing for a high school equivalency diploma. Many participants are young parents or caregivers who have experienced foster care or other challenges.
Adults attend small-group classes focused on everyday reading, writing, and English skills. While adults are learning, children take part in fun literacy activities like story time, games, and early reading practice. Families also spend time reading together and learning simple ways to support reading at home.
Programs are held at community locations such as libraries and partner sites and are free to participants. Books and learning materials are provided. Volunteers and community partners are welcome to support program activities.
