Program Overview

Aquinas Literacy Center offers individualized instruction in English as a Second Language (ESL) to adult learners on the southwest side of Chicago. To supplement instruction, learners are encouraged to participate in weekly book clubs, writing workshops, conversation classes and study in the computer learning center with interactive English-language programs. To develop workplace skills, learners are encouraged to participate in job assistance and computer literacy workshops.

Mission Statement

Aquinas Literacy Center offers individualized tutoring in the English language to area residents at no cost to the students. Our service is based upon the expertise and experience of the Adrian Dominican Sisters and their continuing commitment to education. The Center accepts people of every race, color and creed. We provide an environment conducive to learning, and one which reverences and respects each individual. Closely allied with this intent is the fostering of independent learning, personal growth and responsibility.

Hours of operation: Monday through Thursday, 9am to 8pm

Cost info: Learners are asked to pay $25 for books (for each level of books during tenure at Aquinas Literacy Center).
