Program Overview

Adults (17 and older who are not in school) needing help with reading, writing and/or math are assisted by volunteer tutors in Project Read. Tutors work with students in public locations, such as libraries and churches for approximately two hours per week. Books and materials are provided at no cost to the student.

Volunteer tutors are needed throughout the Southwestern Illinois College district. Tutors receive 12 hours of training before beginning to work with a student, and additional training opportunities are provided. Tutor training is available at various times and locations during the year.
