Program Overview

Mixteca's Adult Education Program aims to improve the livelihood of the Latinx Immigrant community by empowering and increasing literacy skills. Our program focuses on improving educational literacy levels in English and Spanish, developing computer literacy skills, and providing skills-development opportunities in order to pave the way for improved or new work opportunities. Our free services include ESOL programs for immigrants whose financial situations prohibit them from paying for English language training. Courses run on a Fall and Spring semester cycle and include basic, conversational, intermediate, and/or advanced levels of ESOL, basic and intermediate Computer Literacy, and basic Spanish-Language literacy. Additionally, we provide workshops and training year-round to continue supporting and advancing educational opportunities for the community we serve. Amid the pandemic, our adult education programming has majorly transitioned to virtual programming.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

"I started with Mixteca taking a Basic English class with the teacher Victor and since then, I have started to feel confident and lose my fear when speaking English. All this is thanks to Mixteca and the teachers that have taught me in the course. Currently, I feel happy and satisfied since I am now studying at an advanced English level and I can already take orders in English at my job! I owe that to Mixteca, who was there at the precise moment when there was so much difficulty for the Latino community. They did everything possible to continue with the classes and I hope they will continue to reach more people in the city of NYC. I would like every mother and father to know about Mixteca and to approach the organization so they can study and improve as I did."
