Program Overview
Academy of Medical & Public Health Services (AMPHS) is a nonprofit organization that works to provide accessible immigrant health and education services in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, will be offering free English classes as a part of its Adult Literacy Program beginning in mid-February.
English classes will be offered at four levels -- Beginner, High Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced – and cover grammar, speaking, and writing for English learners. The goal of AMPHS' new Adult Literacy Program is to empower community members with the English skills to interact in different settings in their everyday lives, understand their rights as immigrants, and advance in their careers. Examples of topics covered include: immigrant and healthcare rights, health and financial literacy, civics, workplace communication, government and community resources, and everyday interactions.
In addition, AMPHS will provide support to participants who are interested in seeking a job at the end of their program. The program will also cover the cost for books and course materials. Upon successful completion of all coursework, participants will receive a gift card at the end of the term. Classes last from October to June over a 10-month period.
