Program Overview
A 1 Learning Connections 2Gen program was created to meet the unique education, English language, and employment needs of African immigrant parents in Knoxville. Services include:
- G.E.D./HiSET diploma (regain secondary diplomas received/in progress in country of birth)
- English-as-a second language
- Reading, math, science, and social studies tutoring
- G.E.D. curriculum is citizenship focused
- Keyboarding skills
- Parenting
- Understanding your child's school
- Family stories—increasing child resiliency
- Healthy eating
- Physical fitness
- Advocating for your child
- Money management
- Program leads to increased and/or full-time employment
2Gen is a tandem program with A 1 Learning Connections' S.M.A.R.T. Institute after-school programs at Austin East High School and Vine Middle School for Grades 6-12 students.
Because of COVID-19, the 2Gen program is currently being held at Community Evangelistic Church at 2650 Boyds Bridge Pike in Knoxville until further notice.
