Program Overview

A 1 Learning Connections 2Gen program was created to meet the unique education, English language, and employment needs of African immigrant parents in Knoxville. Services include:

  • G.E.D./HiSET diploma (regain secondary diplomas received/in progress in country of birth)
  • English-as-a second language
  • Reading, math, science, and social studies tutoring
  • G.E.D. curriculum is citizenship focused
  • Keyboarding skills
  • Parenting
  • Understanding your child's school
  • Family stories—increasing child resiliency
  • Healthy eating
  • Physical fitness
  • Advocating for your child
  • Money management
  • Program leads to increased and/or full-time employment

2Gen is a tandem program with A 1 Learning Connections' S.M.A.R.T. Institute after-school programs at Austin East High School and Vine Middle School for Grades 6-12 students.

Because of COVID-19, the 2Gen program is currently being held at Community Evangelistic Church at 2650 Boyds Bridge Pike in Knoxville until further notice.
