Program Overview

Thank you for your interest in the Urbana Adult Education Center (UAEC)! At the UAEC, we proudly offer FREE high school, GED, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), and other courses to persons ages 16 years and older. We are proud of the unique educational and career opportunities our programs offer and strive to meet the individual needs of each and every student, at their own pace. We invite you to read through the various pages of the website to learn more about our programs and courses offered. Classes are funded through federal and state grants, with help from local sources such as The United Way of Champaign County. Anyone 16 years or older who is not enrolled in a regular school program in Urbana, Champaign, or in neighboring communities may enroll. You may begin at any time and continue until you have reached your educational goals. Daytime and evening classes are available Fall and Spring semesters. These classes are FREE! The John M. Garth Adult Education Center is located in downtown Urbana within two blocks of the Courthouse MTD Bus Stop. Call 384-3530 for an appointment to register. GED classes are open to those who are 16 and over. Students who are 18 and over may work on a high school diploma in our Accelerated Performance Learning (APL) classes. Students who are younger than 18 working on a diploma may earn credits. The following courses are also available: Basic Reading Improvement, Basic Math Improvement, Computer Education (Introduction to Computers, Keyboarding, and Microsoft Office 2010 Suite), English as a Second Language, and Certified Nursing Assistant. Feel free to contact us with any questions at (217) 384-3530 or by email at
