Empowering Through Education: The UNF's Adult Education Program, offered at the Cleghorn Neighborhood Center, combines four major components that Latino immigrants need to succeed in life: General Education Diploma (GED) preparation, English as a Second Language (ESL), computer training, and citizenship preparation classes. The components are offered in both English and Spanish, based on need. The CNC's program meets both the cultural and linguistic need of participants. Classes are added or removed depending on the needs of the community. We have added a Wellness component that is culturally appropriate, which includes Cooking & Nutrition classes, and Zumba. We have also piloted Spanish classes for English speakers as a tool for integration between old and new immigrants. Free childcare is offered during classes.
Current list of classes:
GED preparation in Spanish (English if needed)
Citizenship classes (with a financial literacy component)
ESL Computer classes
Our youth programs, offered at the Cleghorn Youth Center, also offer free after-school tutoring and literacy programming for youth ages, 5-18. The youth center also offers a variety of educational, cultural, leadership, arts and recreational programming for youth, during the school year and summer.
Hours of operation: Monday - Thursday, 9-5 p.m. with some weekend hours
