In 1972, the St Francis Center,incorporated as the Long Beach Island Community Center, and began providing social service programs to the Ocean County community and has continued to do so for the past forty four years. The goal of the St. Francis Center is to be a community focal point which offers a wide range of services and programs aimed at meeting the needs of Ocean County residents regardless of age, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or religious affiliation. Programs are offered to all residents of the county, but the majority of the services provided are to those residents who are low income and working poor.
Educational Support Services is a component of the Center that provides the community with basic literacy skills; NJ High School Diploma Prep Class, adult basic skills and English as a second language (ESL), which also includes job and life skills. This program also provides vulnerable populations receiving public assistance TANF/GA/SNAP) as well as the unemployed or underemployed with low literacy levels to bridge the gap in
skills with goals to enter the workforce and become self-sufficient wage earners.
Program offers college and career readiness skills, assist students interested in post-secondary education or training, obtain citizenship skills and resources to enter and/or retain employment.
