The Southington Public Schools Adult Education Program offers state mandated classes in General Education Preparation (GED), English as a Second Language (ESL), and Americanization/Citizenship. All state mandated courses are free. There are 24 classes divided into spring and fall sessions. Materials are provided free of charge. The computer lab is available to all students registered in above classes.
The GED test preparation classes are designed to prepare students to take all four sections of the GED exam. Applicants for the GED test must be 17 years of age or older and no longer in school.
The ESL course has been designed for adults needing basic skills and language to function effectively and for people whose native language is not English. There are beginner, intermediate, and advanced learners enrolled in the ESL classes. The course also includes English on the Go, a series of field trips into the community to apply English skills.
The Americanization/Citizenship classes are for immigrants preparing for the United States Citizenship test.
Hours of operation: Monday through Thursday - 5:30 to 8:00 - 24 sessions a year broken into a spring and fall session
Cost info: All state mandated courses are free. This includes courses in English as a Second Language, General Education Preparation/Adult Basic Education, and Americanization/Citizenship. Additional enrichment courses are offered to all adults with a minimum fee to cover program costs.
