Program Overview

SESL, which began working in October 2012, now has a central location where most classes are held in the middle of South Sacramento - designated by the Obama Administration as Ground Zero of the Promise Zone in Sacramento. We offer interesting and dynamic classes at the Literacy to Intermediate levels in two evening classes.

Our students, all adults from 18 years of age and up, come from Latin America and Asia for the most part. At the present time we have about 40 students with more coming every day. Our students receive dictation, speaking practice, listening skills practice, writing, reading comprehension, grammar, and pronunciation instruction using student-centered instruction and standards-based student books, workbooks, and the Oxford Picture Dictionary.

Not only do we teach the English language - we also teach how to survive and succeed in the United States.

We have just added a Conversation Class which will meet on Thursday evenings. In the summer we average about 75 students from all over the world. Please see our flyer for more information.
