New Vision, Inc. is excited to offer “Parents as Reading Partners” to New Vision Academy, a Davidson County/Nashville public charter school serving grades 5-8, in the Fall of 2014. Parents as Reading Partners or PARP is a family literacy program which involves education and literacy components for adults, children, and families together. The program will serve 250 individuals, approximately 150 students and 100 parents (to account for multiple siblings at the same school). The goal of this program is to increase family and community engagement in education and support literacy training. Specific program objectives include: 1) Provides parents with education information and support to improve their own literacy abilities. 2) Fortifies children’s reading habits 3) Brings parents and children closer together by sharing the pleasurable experience of reading together 4) Improves children’s creativity and well-being by limiting television viewing and increasing family closeness
