Student and Volunteer Success Stories
Charles is a 67 year old man with no high school diploma whose life took some sad turns in the last couple of years. His wife passed away and he had a disabling stroke and lost his business. He decided it was never too late to get an education and he enrolled in our program. He took classes for several months and earned his high school equivalency diploma. He plans to continue with our classes as he prepares to enroll in community college.
Here are some quotes from a few of our volunteer mentors:
"Thank you for allowing me to participate in the mentoring program. It has been rewarding for me personally and I hope in some way I have added value".
"I suggested that in going forward, I am 100% available to her as needed. My hope is that she will continue on the positive path she is on currently. I believe in her and am quite confident she is on her way!"
"Thanks for the opportunity to participate in the program! I feel like we have formed a good relationship, and I've been really excited to see him continue to progress with his goals. This has been a really good and enjoyable experience for me as well."
During our most recent program year, we served 705 students. 252 of those were English Language Learners. 103 students earned their High School Equivalency Diploma. Approximately 32% of our students are Hispanic or Latino although we serve students from all over the world.
