Program Overview

Adults who want to learn to read or to improve their reading skills are invited to join the Livingston Parish Library Adult Literacy Program (LPLALP). This service in the parish provides one-on-one tutoring to adults who need help with reading and writing. Flexible meeting times are available, and tutors are trained volunteers and library staff. Training for tutors is provided by the LPLALP.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Livingston Parish Library Adult Literacy Program to provide free, confidential, and accessible help to citizens struggling with literacy. We aim to create a judgement free environment in which students and tutors may learn and help one another to improve.

Hours of operation: Monday-Friday 8:30 AM- 4:30 PM or by appointment

Cost info: This Adult Literacy service is completely free to all students and tutors who participate in it. The Adult Literacy Program provides all training and materials, free of charge.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

Recently, one of our students "graduated," reaching the reading level needed to enroll in HiSET prep.

One tutor calls me simply to tell me how excited she is to work with her student and to brag about the progress the student makes from week to week.
