Program Overview

The mission of LVSCT is to provide services at no cost to adults who wish to learn the English language or enhance the reading, writing, speaking, and math skills necessary to lead productive lives in our community. Our literacy programs enable adult English language learners to improve their proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and math -- and thereby to get and retain jobs or get better jobs, to become more involved in their children's education, to participate more in their community, and to receive a driver's license or apply for U.S. citizenship. Although we do run a few small classes, most tutoring is provided one-on-one, so that tutors can tailor the instruction to a student's needs. Drawing on the expertise gained during 2020, when all tutoring had to be done virtually, we are now able to offer tutoring online or in person, depending on the preferences of tutors and students. Regardless of format, all tutoring is offered at NO CHARGE to students.
