Program Overview
Our mission is to build meaningful relationships with limited income Hispanic families with children prenatal to age 8, to make visible their potential as literate contributors to society. LiLaC offers a strengths-based approach which values each family's culture, language and experiences, promoting language and literacy proficiency in Spanish, English and Mandarin Chinese. As a result of weekly home visits by a highly qualified, bilingual home visitor, children are prepared to experience academic achievement throughout their school years while maintaining enriched bonds with their family. Over time, LiLaC provides each family with home libraries of children's literature in Spanish, English and Chinese. February, 2012, LiLaC was incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. June, 2014, three children, having completed third grade, graduated from LiLaC. Implementation of the LiLaC home visitation program has constituted a proof of concept, showing measurable outcomes that provide a basis for replication and expansion. Currently, we are expanding, adding Home visitor staff to serve as instructors at the LiLaC Parent Co-op Child Development Center, offering classes for parents and their children, Before Birth through 4 years. Parents will gain hands on experience of interacting with their child which they'll incorporate in their home environment activities. Adult English and Spanish classes will be available for parents.Education services
