Program Overview
Leer Mas is a family literacy program designed to help parents and children become literate in both their native language (Spanish) as well as English. Our ESL staff along with the Reading Specialist, will hold three training night for parents and students. Each session Pre-K, Non-fiction, and Fiction night is designed to teach parents strategies for reading with their children during the 2014-2015 school year. Bruce Drysdale Elementary School is the only dual language school in Henderson County NC. We currently have a K-2 program with more than 100 children enrolled. Many of our Hispanic parents have indicated in recent school surveys that they would benefit from learning how to read, ask questions, and discuss the books their children are reading with them. As a result of this need, Leer Mas has been created to provide not only training but hopefully book sets to encourage more engagement with accessible text for our Hispanic families.Cost Info
