Mission Statement

Founded in 2007, JOMLP is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to equipping adults with the necessary literacy skills to achieve their full potential. Our mission is to promote literacy in Inkster, Michigan by making new books, forums, workshops and reading and writing tutors available and accessible to city residents. We believe that readers become leaders, and by developing better readers we build self-esteem, encourage academic and socioeconomic growth, and empower our community.

Program’s Demographics/Metrics

Although our focus is on Inkster residents, our services are available to any adult (age 18 or older), living in the Inkster area. Tutoring takes place at area libraries (Inkster Public Library, Dearborn Heights Caroline Kennedy Library), churches, and community centers. Tutors are volunteers who are specially trained to help adults learn or improve basic English literacy skills. We do not tutor children (under 18) and do not offer ESL services at this time.
