Program Overview

This course provides a comprehensive review of areas of study covered on the GED Test (High School Equivalency Examination), that will prepare and equip students to pass the test, and because GED students also need the highest level of skills possible upon graduation in order to be competitive in the workplace, its goal is to also assist in the transition to employment and postsecondary education and training. All students will be assessed in reading, math, and language before placement into this course. Classes will provide instruction in the following: • Basic Math • Grammar Usage & Mechanics • Reading Comprehension Strategies • Free Writing • Intermediate Math (Prerequisite) • Sentence Structure & Paragraph Writing • Reading Poetry & Drama • Reading Fiction & Non-Fiction • Organization with Paragraphing • Critical Thinking Skills for Social Studies and Science • Essay Writing • Brainstorming • Organizing • Creating a Thesis Statement • Creating Topic Sentences • Essay Construction • Advanced Math (Prerequisite) • Tables & Graphs • Constitution Review • Test Taking Strategies
