Program Overview

All classes are currently being offered online due to the COVID crisis. For more information please refer to our website.

The Literacy Center's HiSET prep course focuses on preparing you to take the equivalency exam. Subjects covered include math, reading, writing, science, social studies, and computer literacy. Classes may be group instruction or one-on-one tutoring, depending on how many students are currently enrolled. Once you register for classes, you will be asked to take an assessment test to determine the level of instruction that you need. The Literacy Center works in partnership with the Attleboro School District and Bristol Community College to prepare students to take and pass their HiSET. Students will have the option of walking in The Literacy Center's graduation ceremony in June upon passing their HiSET.

TLC's English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program is designed to assist adult learners who want to improve their English language comprehension. Courses include beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels and focus on conversational English, as well as reading and writing in English. Courses are designed to assist our students with day-to-day activities at home, at work and in the community. Students will have access to learning tools in our computer lab, including Rosetta Stone and other programs to help you practice. Individual tutors are also available when needed.
Learning a new language can be intimidating and TLC wants to support you in this exciting endeavor. All students will be asked to complete a basic English comprehension test during their registration process. This will allow us to accurately place you with other students who are at the same level of fluency as you.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

"I dropped out of high school my junior year. After being in and out of rehab for alcoholism, I needed to get my life back on track in a big way. I attended GED classes at The Literacy Center and got my GED in under a year. I now own my own company in Attleboro and am about to retire - passing it on to my kids. I am a proud graduate of TLC." - Local Business Owner & TLC Alumni
