Program Overview

The High School Equivalency Program (HEP) is a free federally-funded program that assists temporary or seasonal agricultural workers and their eligible family members, with attaining their General Education Development (GED) certificate.

The goal of HEP is to help students enhance their life skills and knowledge so that they may qualify for more rewarding employment or for entry into vocational or technical schools, two-year community colleges, four-year universities or the military services.

Nationally, HEP has existed since 1967. The Edinburg site has been serving the South Texas region since 1972 and has served thousands of students during its existence, continuing a tradition of excellence.

Our office is located near the southwest corner of campus in Emilia Hall (corner of University Drive and Sugar Road). Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments preferred.

Hours of operation: M-F 8am - 5pm

Cost info: All services (i.e., instruction, materials, exams, etc.) are free but applicants must meet eligibility requirements.
