Program Overview

Harvest-Time After School Tutoring Program serves children in Marion County, South Carolina. The After School Program focuses on children in grades k-8 who are reading below their current reading level. The program will also offer tutoring in math for children in who are struggling to grasp foundational concepts in mathematics. Our mission is to provide supplementary learning activities that seek to enhance reading and math skills. Currently, school districts have reading and math interventionist embedded into their schools to assist those children who are reading at-least two grade levels below their current grades. Even with the additional resources, these children still have much material to cover in order to catch up with their peers and many are still behind.

Program Goals:

Our primary goal is to create partnerships with the local

schools in our community and assist schools in bridging the academic gaps that
exist in the education of their children. The After School Learning Center For

Program Design:

The program offers diagnostic tests in reading and math, and
writing to develop personalized learning plans for all children served in the
program. The facility is equipped with
the latest in computer technology with internet access designed enhance the
educational learning objectives of all children.

Reading Component:

Reading with children and assisting them practice specific
reading components can dramatically improve their ability to read. Scientific research validates that there are five components of reading that children must be taught if they are to learn how to read and decode text. The After School Learning Center seeks to assist children in developing their reading skills in order to promote lifetime readers and writers. The five essential components of the reading process will be an integral part of the program. The following reading Components that will be taught are as follows: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, vocabulary development, Reading comprehension.

The Reading component of the program help the children
develop a love for reading while teaching essential skills needed for the children to become fluent readers. The
program will build a relationship with the parents by providing biweekly progress reports to the parents regarding the academic progress of child.

The children will also be afforded opportunities to express
themselves in writing. The children will be provided opportunities to write on a consistent basis covering all genres of writing that they are exposed to in the school setting. The students will keep a portfolio of all written work and samples will be provided to the parents as well as their school.

Math Component:

The math program will consist of daily practice in numbers
and operations skills. This is the area that the children have the most problems because many have not developed or made appropriate games in number sense and this is a crucial part of any math program. Daily practice in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division will be provided to all children. The
children will spend time on the computer using various software programs that are designed to provide math practice on areas that the children struggle in the most. Weekly drill and practice activities will be provided .


Technology will also be a focal point of this program.
Children will be provided opportunities to use technology in the form of computers and Apple Ipad tablets. Technology is vital in any program that is focused on teaching children in today's society. The aim of this program is to reach the diverse needs of children in today's rapidly changing society and provide them
with the tools necessary to assist them in the workforce. 25% of the time will be spent on reading activities and 25% of the time will be spent on math activities.

Harvest-Time Bible College is located in Marion County, a
county in which an estimated 25% of residents 16 and older lack basic prose literacy skills. Many of the adults in this county do not have a high school diploma. GED program will be patterned similar to the after school program but
with the age appropriate material to prepare participants to pass the GED exam. We are preparing to become a Pearson VUE testing center to serve Marion and
surrounding counties.

Hours of operation: Tuesday and Thursday 5:00 pm-9:00 pm; Saturdays 9:00 am-1:00 pm
