GOAL is Vegas PBS’ new online education program launched July 2010. GOAL workforce training courses and continuing education certifications enroll more than 115,000 Nevadans per year – a 148 percent increase in its second year. GOAL is available anytime, anywhere with an email account and a computer. Often individuals cannot access place-based courses or other classes due to conflicting schedules and transportation issues. The 24/7 accessibility of GOAL programs removes any scheduling and location barriers. GOAL targets individuals who are unemployed, under-employed, or low-income as well as veterans re-entering the workforce and professionals requiring continuing education. The variety of GOAL’s courses is designed to meet each student where they are on the education continuum. Courses offered range from those that teach basic English, preparation that lead to a High School Completion Certification, to industry certification training and preparation to be employable, improve job skills, and secure required continuing education units. GOAL offers online certification programs and 5,000+ online courses for career development, continuing education and personal enrichment. Online courses are self-paced and instructor-led. The hours of each course vary, as do prices of the self-paced courses, while most instructor-led courses cost $115 and are 24-hour sessions. Through the state workforce training system, GOAL offers 330 instructor-led career certification programs. In addition to high school diploma programs combined with career credentials, these courses align with the Nevada governor’s economic development plan to assist in diversifying the state’s industry and workforce opportunities in the following industry sectors: Aerospace and Defense; Business IT Ecosystems; Tourism, Gaming and Entertainment; Logistics and Operations; Clean Energy; Mining, Materials and Manufacturing; and Health and Medical Services. GOAL partners with over 100 nonprofit service providers, businesses and government agencies locally and statewide. Our partner agencies provide case management and wrap-around services as well as eligibility screening and referral services for GOAL clients. Partners include: • Nevada Job Connect Career Centers • Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation • Workforce Investment Act providers • Clark County School District • Nevada Partners • Workforce Connections One Stop • GNJ Family Life Center • Goodwill of Southern Nevada • Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow • USAA Bank • Heroes 2 Hired
