Program Overview
The mission of the Family Literacy Academy of Immokalee is to fulfill our vision by involving the whole family, thereby making long-term generational changes; securing a healthy quality of life for children of farm worker families; and, breaking the cycle of illiteracy. The program is based on the four-component family literacy standards: Parent Education, Child Education, Parent and Child Together(PACT) Time, and Parenting. Our sessions are scheduled Monday through Thursday, 9:30am to 1:30pm. Sessions begin with parent/child activities, followed by PACT Time during which parents and children participate in organized activities based on dialogic reading techniques using children's literature. After PACT, children receive age-appropriate instruction and educational play, based on Literacy Express Preschool Curriculum; while their parents spend parallel time receiving English and Adult Basic Education instruction. Additionally, parents receive weekly Parenting instruction.
Hours of operation: Monday - Thursday 9:30am - 1:30pm
