Program Overview

Literacy has a significant impact across life domains for Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Literate individuals with disabilities have a wider range of vocational options as Adults. We have four areas that we focus on.

Reading: "Functional literacy" often defined as the ability to read at a designated grade level.

Writing: Written literacy is an individual's capacity to write what he/she needs too in clear and reasonably accurate language.

Math: "Numeracy" or "mathematical literacy" refers to the ability to perform the basic mathematical operations addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and whatever else normally needed in everyday life

Cultural: Cultural literacy is the familiarity of background knowledge in American culture. This can include everything from the great classics of western literature to knowing the name of the President of the United States
