Program Overview

Adults in Allegheny County have many educational opportunities through the AIU's Adult Education and Workforce Development department. Most of the programs target economically and academically challenged students who are interested in improving educational and employment opportunities for their family or to gain citizenship. Our courses help potential employees develop skills needed in the workplace or to transition to post-secondary education. Currently we have classes for Adult Basic Education students and English as a second Language Students that wish to transition into post-secondary education or training programs or improve their skills for employment reasons All students develop a career path while learning the basic skills necessary to excel in their jobs or academic environment. Test- taking strategies to help students pass the high school equivalency exams, college entrance exams, or other required tests needed for employment or entering post-secondary training programs is another important focus of our programs. We also have citizenship classes for students that would like to follow the path of naturalization or civics classes for recent citizens needing to further explore their civic responsibilities. Students are served in various communities throughout the county. Call 412-281-4494 for more information or to register!
