One of our primary mainstay services have been an afterschool program. Many of the schools (elementary, middle, and high) in this impoverished area we reside are failing schools. Within the afterschool program, HFC provides a book club for students that help students utilize exercises in comprehension, and help to extend reading skills to many to combat low literacy rates. STEM projects are also included and acknowledged in fun and innovative ways to get students excited about school and interests that can lead to their future college and career choices. By providing nutritional meals for not only the children in this area, but their families, HFC understands the importance that when the family unit thrives, the child has better chances of beating the odds of being a statistic or victim of their own circumstances.
Summer is the ideal time for kids to get up, get out and explore. But, for some kids summer means no access to recreational and educational activities to help them learn, grow and thrive during out-of-school time. As a result, some kids can experience learning loss and gain weight twice as fast than during the school year. Attending Heart for Children Inc. summer day camp is a wonderful opportunity for kids to keep their minds and bodies active. Heart for Children program offers: Healthy meals and snacks, recreational activities, arts & crafts, team building drills, exercises in improving mathematical and reading skill sets, field trips and so much more. HFC offers ZUMBA for the children as well as the community. The organization thrives to be the heart of the community it serves, to be a part of the solution making sure children have the best possible opportunities to grow, learn and flourish into adulthood.
To keep children off of the streets and in a safe and nurturing environment providing opportunities in education, health and wellness, and mentoring for under privileged and at-risk youth.
